Histoire de Grands Magasins – Vertige du Foisonnement

Paris 14/16 October 2015.
Simultaneously at the Novancia Business School and the Maison de l'Italie, exhibition and seminar Les Affiches Artistiques des Grands Magasins “MELE” de Naples.
On display is a selection of around 30 posters and a Power Point presentation, in images and texts, of the history of the Mele family, "19th century businessmen with a truly Neapolitan taste and cultural sensitivity".

Three important institutions, the Mondragone Foundation, the Second University of Naples and the Emiddio Mele Foundation, meet in the late Baroque architectural setting of the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, home of the Textile and Clothing Museum - Regional Fashion Center of the Campania Region.
Alessandra Cirafici and Caterina Fiorentino of the department of architecture and industrial design of the Second University of Naples, designed, curated and created the exhibition E. and A. Mele & C. genius and creativity at the "best value", a fascinating overview of the society, fashion and customs through the centuries, experienced in the images of the exhibition and in the themes of the seminar:

  • "Vertigo", trade on display, the epic of department stores from the 19th to the 20th century

From De Nittis to Gemito, Neapolitans in Paris at the time of Impressionism

in the context of the Gallerie d'Italia exhibition project curated by the Intesa San Paolo Institute, from December 2017 to April 2018, a thematic and philological exhibition of important paintings by Neapolitan artists was held, collected on display at Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano in Naples.
The Emiddio Mele Foundation participated in the drafting of the text of the catalog with an independent section edited by Francesca Mele entitled “I Grandi Magazzini Mele. A Neapolitan record."

September 27, 2018 
Baroque music concert, directed by Maria Giuseppina Paone, collateral to the awarding of scholarships by the Mele Foundation to the most talented students of the Royal Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella. The 1903 score was included in the repertoire of the event, taken from the historical archive of the Mele Foundation, commissioned by the Mele brothers from the poets Eduardo di Capua and Salvatore Gambardella and set to music by Pasquale Cinquegrana on the occasion of the visit to Naples of the President of the French Republic Emile Loubet. The song "viva Loubet" was performed by 400 musicians directed by Maestro Galasso in Piazza del Plebiscito under the balconies of the Royal Palace of Naples.
